Star Citizen Alpha 3.0: Travels Through The Verse

Here’s my version of a completely in-game Star Citizen alpha 3.0 trailer, showcase, sizzle reel, highlight reel, etc. It’s a two minute, cinematic romp through various locations, encounters & gameplay mechanics in an attempt to visually showcase how big & diverse this game is already. All footage was recorded in game by me in Star Citizen Alpha 3.0 within the sandbox “Universe” or “Crusader” game mode with the use of ReShade for some control over levels, colors, filmgrain & depth of field effects. Robert Easton: A Thousand Voices You Didn’t Know You Heard

To begin this story, I first must explain what Mystery Science Theater 3000 and Rifftrax are. In basic terms, it is a concept where comedians provide a commentary to a movie that makes fun of, or “riffs”, the movie. In the case of Mystery Science Theater 3000 it was a bunch of B-movies, mostly from the 1950s and 1960s. With Rifftrax, it is any movie that strikes their fancy. You just download the audio file and sync it to your DVD. This story begins with the Rifftrax version of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. In this movie we find Captain Kirk […]

Star Citizen Parallax Effect

Putting a spin on static in-game screenshots, this video is a 4k compilation of four parallax effect clips I created using in-game screenshots from Star Citizen Alpha 2.6. These use a technique commonly called “Parallax Scrolling” which: “is a technique in computer graphics and web design, where background images move by the camera slower than foreground images, creating an illusion of depth in a 2D scene and adding to the immersion. The technique grew out of the multiplane camera technique used in traditional animation since the 1930s.” Each scene uses anywhere from four to eight different in-game screenshots specifically taken for […]

50 Years Later, and Monterey Pop is Still a Seminal Event

This weekend marks the 50th Anniversary of the seminal event, the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967 in Monterey, California. Monterey Pop is considered by many music historians to be the first modern rock festival. It was the first time pop music (what we would come to call rock by the 1980s) was so big it received its own dedicated venue for a weekend. The fairgrounds alone held up to 9,000 audience members – something only eclipsed by The Beatles and Elvis in arenas at that point. Estimates range from a minimum of 25,000 to over 90,000 people were in the […]

Erik McKetten’s “Mass Effect Andromeda” Trial Copy Review (PC) (Minor Spoilers)

Over six hundred years after he first crawled into the cryotube, David Ryder snaps awake and sits up. His face is twisted into an inhuman rictus of confusion. The smirk he gives one of the attendants helps to explain his confusion: Ryder is a douchebag. Now he’s not a douchebag by game design – he’s a douchebag by my own design. My viewers and readers know I have a hell of an addiction to Mystery Science Theater 3000 and one of my all-time favorite episodes is “Space Mutiny.” In that movie the “hero” is a douchy muscle-bound moron played by […]

Hellion follow-up: “In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream ‘WTF?!?’”

Full Disclosure: I received Hellion for free from Zero Gravity Games. Three weeks ago I wrote an article on the upcoming Early Access release of “Hellion” by Zero Gravity Games. Hellion, for those who missed it, is a first-person, realistic, space survival game. The premise is simple: you are an average, every-day citizen of Earth who is on a colonization mission to the new star system called “Hellion.” Along the way, while in cryogenic sleep, something goes wrong. When you awaken you find yourself alone in a lifepod in the Hellion system. Nothing of what you were expecting is there: […]

Star Citizen Hurricane – New heavy fighter

Star Citizen Hurricane – New heavy fighter

Has our demand for more dakka found its answer? The new heavy fighter was revealed on Friday, it is the Anvil Hurricane! A small ship that packs a big punch! Described as a glass cannon, it delivers what the description implies. Weighing in at  15,500kg, it is 7000kg lighter than the Super Hornet. This metric confused many at most because it is not heavy at all and is actually smaller in length as you can see by this side by side comparison: The heavy part of this fighter comes from the impressive weaponry that has been bolted onto the manned […]
